Kayaking is legal at upper part of river Belá

From 21st of May 2022 it is officially allowed to do kayaking and canoeing on upper part of river Bela in Tatras almost from confluence of Tichy and Koprovsky creek. Kayaking is possible only when following strict rules made by the TANAP national park. River is flowing between 3rd and 5th (the highest) grade of nature protection therefor it is forbidden to put-off on any other place (except emergency situations), use open fire or through out garbage.

It is only possible to carry kayaks and walk to starting point (no transport by car/motorized vehicles). From parking spot Podbanske cross the river using pedestrians bridge and follow yellow marked hiking path for approximately 1,7km. At walking paths crossing turn left and follow marked path to starting point (the last 150m are quite hard in off road terrain).

  • Put-in is located approximately 150m down from confluence of Tichy and Koprovsky creek (river km 23.4)
  • Kayaking and canoeing is possible only using 1seated boats (K1 and C1)
  • Kayaking and canoeing is possible only during daytime (1 hour after sunrise and you need to finish 1 hour before sunset)
  • Kayaking and canoeing is possible only if there si enough water level (at least 55cm at Podbanske gauge)
  • Whitewater class is WW IV-, suitable only for experienced paddlers
  • It is about 2,5km from starting point to parking spot Podbanske by kayak.
